Three Big Digital marketing Stories From November 2021

November witnessed another Google update, while they also launched new tools and features for Google Ads. Facebook also introduced tools that should be of interest to businesses using their Groups community feature.

Here’s what’s been happening in the world of SEO, Google Ads and Social Media over the last month.

 

Google November Core Update

Google confirmed that their November 2021 Core Update has ended, with websites that experienced shifts in rankings assured they should not experience additional changes to their status due to the latest algorithm update.

The update was first rolled out on November 17, and the announcement of its completion came 13 days later.

Google have previously spoken about what their updates mean, saying: “Several times a year, we make significant, broad changes to our search algorithms and systems. We refer to these as “core updates.” They’re designed to ensure that overall, we’re delivering on our mission to present relevant and authoritative content to searchers. These core updates may also affect Google Discover.

“We confirm broad core updates because they typically produce some widely notable effects. Some sites may note drops or gains during them. We know those with sites that experience drops will be looking for a fix, and we want to ensure they don’t try to fix the wrong things. Moreover, there might not be anything to fix at all.”

Google also reaffirmed that the most important thing for a website’s ranking is quality content.

 

Google Ads Introduces Editor Version 1.8

The new 1.8 version of the Google Ads Editor was introduced in November and helps users automatically apply recommendations and review account performance. It should enable users to optimise their campaigns more efficiently.

The automatically applied recommendations in Google Ads Editor requires the user to opt in, and then Google applies the recommendations of their choice as and when new opportunities surface in their account. Users can opt out at any time as well as customise the options.

Additional amendments and updates include full support for asset-based call extensions and asset-based price extensions, as well as for asset-based hotel callout and app extensions.

 

Build Strong Communities with New Facebook Groups Features

The social media giant now known as Meta has launched a series of new features for Facebook Groups which are intended to help build stronger communities. The features should improve communication between group members and provide administrators with more tools to customise the aesthetics of the group.

Among the new admin tools are customisation options including colours, post backgrounds, fonts and emoji reactions. There are also new preset collections of post formats, badges and admin tools. Admins can now select the formats they want members to use when they post in your group, as well as create a unique greeting message that all new members receive upon joining the group.

The new admin tools should enable businesses using Facebook Groups to properly represent their brand as they prefer.
